This is a resin replacement engine cowling with the cooling flaps in the open position from the Quickboost brand (Aires), intended for the Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat carrier-based fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not an aircraft model but a detail accessory that replaces the engine cowling from the basic kit. The open cooling flaps give a finished model a livelier and more realistic look.
The Grumman F6F Hellcat was an American carrier-based fighter of the Second World War period, deployed above all in the Pacific. It was powered by a radial engine whose cowling with the cooling flaps is a conspicuous feature of the nose. Showing the flaps in the open position is typical of a machine standing on the ground or on a deck.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with a detergent to remove the remains of the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks away with a sharp knife or a saw, and sand with respiratory protection. It is bonded with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Before painting, degrease the whole thing and spray it with primer, which the paints hold on to better. According to the maker the accessory is cut for the Hobby Boss kit.
This is an accessory set made of resin, not a stand-alone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
