About product

The real subject

The 122 mm howitzer was one of the pillars of Soviet artillery in the Second World War. It fired in an arc over obstacles in the terrain and its shell had mass enough to deal with field fortifications and with buildings in a town. Unlike tank guns it was loaded separately: the crew put the shell into the barrel first and only then the cartridge case with the propellant charge, which could be adjusted according to the range of the target. That is exactly why complete rounds do not lie about on the ground around such a gun, but shells on one side and cartridge cases on the other, each with its own packing and crate.

What the set brings to a model

Artillery ammunition is a scene in itself. Set out beside the trail of a towed gun, stowed in the fighting compartment of a self-propelled gun, leaned against a pile of crates or passed down from the bed of a truck, it gives a model a story at once. In a diorama it works on its own as well, as a trace of a firing position the unit has just left.

  • 122 mm ammunition in 1:35 scale
  • Parts made by three-dimensional printing, as the name states
  • The subject is Soviet howitzer ammunition of the Second World War
  • For models of artillery and self-propelled guns and for a diorama

Working with printed parts

Cut the supports the printed parts are held by away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the remainder off, so that the outline of the nose and of the base is preserved. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. They are not polystyrene, so reach for super glue. When painting it helps to set the cartridge case apart from the shell: a metallic shade on the case against the darker body of the projectile separates the two even on a small area. Check the particular shades and markings in the references for your own subject.

Who it is for

For modelers who build Soviet vehicles in 1:35 scale and want to give a gun a stock of ammunition. The model, paints and glue are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.

Super glue. The parts are not polystyrene, so ordinary cement for plastic kits has no effect on them.
