S032 Dark Gray (2) — a semi-gloss Gunze Mr.Color lacquer in a spray (40 ml)

The dark gray shade Dark Gray (2) from the Mr.Color lacquer range by the Japanese brand Gunze (Mr. Hobby), supplied as an aerosol spray with a volume of 40 ml. It is a solvent-borne lacquer — not an acrylic thinnable with water — with a semi-gloss finish that imitates the real finish of aviation and military hardware faithfully. The spray sprays straight from the can, so you can lay the paint down even without an airbrush and a compressor. The shade is meant mainly for modern jet aircraft and warships.

Watch out for confusing the shade

You will also find the similar shade Dark Gray (1) on offer — another version of the dark gray. The two grays are easily confused, so before buying check that it is the number two (2) you need and not the number one (1). The wrongly chosen version only shows once sprayed.

Use

• Shake the can thoroughly for several minutes before use.
• Spray in thin coats from a distance of approximately 25 cm — rather more light coats than one heavy one.
• Work in warm, dry conditions; damp and cold spoil the surface.
• As a lacquer it can attack bare plastic — on delicate parts test on a hidden spot first or use a primer.
• A semi-gloss surface is a good base under decals, washes and pigments.

For modelers building modern aircraft and ships who want a fast and even semi-gloss coat without an airbrush. The paint can be complemented with a flat or a gloss varnish, with washes, with pigments for patina and with decals.

A solvent-borne lacquer. It is flammable and smells strongly — work outdoors or in a well-ventilated space, use a respirator and protect yourself from inhaling the vapors. Keep it away from open flame.
