Gunze Mr.Color Spray – Clear Red (a clear lacquer aerosol, 40 ml)

A lacquer spray from the Mr.Color range by the Japanese brand Gunze. Watch out – this is a clear (transparent) red with no covering power. It is not laid down like an ordinary paint: it colors what is underneath translucently, like stained glass, so the resulting shade and lightness are set by what lies below. The package is a pressurized can of 40 ml, it sprays straight from the aerosol and you need neither an airbrush nor a compressor.

Use

• The candy effect: laid over a silver or metallic base it gives a brilliant, deep candy red – ideal for the custom finishes of cars and motorcycles.
• Coloring transparent parts: tail and brake lights, beacons and lenses gain realistically red glass.
• Tinting and shading: a subtle accent, the tinting of chrome or the suggestion of glowing brake discs.
• Spray thinly and in several coats from a distance of about 25 cm – what is underneath is meant to show through. Every further coat deepens the shade, a heavy coat makes blotches and runs together.
• It comes out best over a smooth, finely sanded and ideally metallic surface.

For modelers who need a clear tinting paint, not an opaque red – for lights, candy finishes and color effects on cars, motorcycles, aircraft and sci-fi models. Under a candy red a silver or metallic spray makes a brilliant base; the finished surface can be sealed with a clear coat.

Mr.Color is a lacquer – the solvent can attack bare plastic as well as some transparent parts, so test and spray in thin coats. Work only in a well-ventilated space or outdoors and use a respirator. Flammable, do not spray near open flame. In damp or cold conditions the surface may whiten (a haze).
