S050 Clear Blue - (Gloss) Spray

Gunze Mr.Color Spray - Clear Blue (a clear lacquer aerosol, 40 ml)

A lacquer spray from the Mr.Color range by the Japanese brand Gunze. Note - it is a clear (transparent) blue with no covering power. It does not work like an ordinary paint: it colors the base translucently, like stained glass, so the resulting shade and lightness are determined by what lies beneath it. The package is a 40 ml pressurized can, sprayed straight from the aerosol, and you need neither an airbrush nor a compressor.

Use

• Coloring clear parts: blue beacons, position and marker lights and lenses gain realistically blue glass.
• The candy effect: applied over a silver or metallic base it gives a glowing, deep candy blue, a favorite custom finish on cars and motorcycles.
• Tinting and shading: a cool blue cast, tinting chrome or glazing toward blue.
• Spray it thinly and in several coats from a distance of about 25 cm - the base is meant to show through. Each further coat deepens the shade, and a heavy application makes patches.
• It comes out best on a smooth, finely sanded and preferably metallic base.

Who it is for

For modelers who need a clear tinting paint rather than a covering blue - for lights and beacons, candy finishes and blue effects on cars, motorcycles, aircraft and science fiction models. A silver or metallic spray makes a glowing base under a candy blue; the finished surface can be sealed with a clear coat.

Mr.Color is a lacquer - the solvent may attack bare plastic and some clear parts, so test it and spray in thin coats. Work only in a well-ventilated area or outdoors and use a respirator. Flammable, so do not spray near open flame. In damp or cold conditions the surface may whiten into a haze.
