About product

Mr.Color Spray S129 Dark Green (Nakajima) - semi-matte dark green (Gunze / Mr.Hobby), 40 ml

A semi-matte lacquer spray (aerosol) from the Japanese brand Gunze Mr.Hobby with a volume of 40 ml in a dark green. It is a lacquer ready for immediate application which needs neither an airbrush nor a compressor. The shade corresponds to the dark green of the upper surfaces of Japanese military aircraft of the Second World War from the production of the Nakajima company.

The color

Japanese factories each mixed their own green a little differently, which is why Gunze lists the shades as factory ones. Nakajima is not the same as Mitsubishi - a different factory, a different tone of green. Anyone building an aircraft from Nakajima production (the Ki-43 Hayabusa fighter, torpedo and carrier types, for example) needs precisely this shade, not the Mitsubishi one. For Mitsubishi machines (typically the Zero) there is a separate Dark Green (Mitsubishi) in the range - the shades are easily mistaken for each other, so check by the maker of the aircraft which one you are buying.

Use

  • Shake it for 1 to 2 minutes before spraying (there is a mixing ball inside), otherwise the paint delivers thinly and unevenly.
  • Apply thin coats from a distance of roughly 25 cm; a heavy coat runs and creates orange peel. Better several thin passes than one heavy one.
  • Spray in warm, dry conditions - in cold and damp a milky haze appears on the finish.
  • It is a lacquer that attacks plastic - proceed carefully on thin and clear parts and test on a hidden area first.
  • A semi-matte surface is a rewarding base under decals and weathering - once dry, apply decals, washes and filters to a worn panel.

Who it is for

For builders of Japanese aircraft of the Second World War, specifically machines from Nakajima production. A matte clear coat for unifying the surface, decals for Japanese aircraft and washes or filters for weathering go well with it. For Mitsubishi aircraft, choose the matching Dark Green (Mitsubishi).

Lacquer fumes - use only in a well-ventilated area and with a respirator. The aerosol is flammable, so protect it from flame and heat. A spray does not suit fine detail, but it does suit areas.
