A title from Kagero's naval line. The subject is set by the name: the Russian cruiser Askold.
The Askold was a protected cruiser built in a German yard at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. She became famous above all for her silhouette: five slim funnels in a row made her a ship that could not be mistaken for anything else, and this feature became her hallmark. In design she was a fast cruiser with a medium-caliber battery, meant for scouting and for screening the main force. The ship had a long and varied career in several naval theaters.
Ships of the turn of the century have a different look from the gray warships of later years: broken-up superstructures, tall masts with tops, canvas screens on the railings and often colorful paintwork too. The Askold adds to that a silhouette you remember at first glance. For a model that means an attractive result, but also the need to have documentation on one particular ship at hand, because general surveys will not supply the detail.
This is a printed publication. It is not a kit and not an accessory for a model; the package holds no parts.
