Purple metal on a flat part

Crimson Magenta is aimed at a cool purple that is closer to fuchsia than to scarlet. In the base version this is a coat laid over the whole surface, so it is precisely this one that decides how the metal will look in the result at first sight. On a large flat panel the shade appears darker and more concentrated; on a small part, on the contrary, it acts brighter, because more reflections come together at once in a small shape.

Metal particles tend to lay themselves down in the direction of the stroke. If the brush therefore alternates directions, lighter and darker stripes arise on the dried area that stand out only when the model is tilted toward the light. The answer is thin coats always pulled in the same direction, and patience between them. The reward is a continuous surface that darkens naturally in the hollows and lightens of its own accord on the edges, with no other color applied there.

Before you start building the transition

This member of the range does not make a three-dimensional effect on its own. Shading the hollows and finishing the edges are taken care of by further bottles of the same shade, which are kept separately and are not in this package. It suits fantasy armor, science-fiction hulls and models of cars with a marked metallic paint. On models with rich relief it is worth trying the extent out first on a piece of waste sprue: a purple in a metal version behaves differently under various lights than it does in the imagination according to the cap of the bottle. Only on a test piece will you see how deeply the shade darkens on your particular relief and whether it needs supporting anywhere with one more coat.
