Ultramarine Blue is an acrylic shade from the True Metallic Metal range by Vallejo, that is, from the range intended for painting metals with metallic paints. The deep blue suits the colored plate parts of armor, helmets and pauldrons, metal shields and machine covers where a surface is meant to act painted and metallic at the same time. It finds a use on figures from fantastic and science-fiction worlds, where colored metal belongs to the character of a figure.
The shades of the range are kept in two positions. LIGHT is the lighter variant for lit places, edges and sheens; the SHADE variant, on the contrary, is aimed into the hollows and at the surfaces turned away. Blue metal rests on this difference more than any other shade, because without lights it merges into one dark area. Apply the LIGHT position in a targeted way, therefore, where light would fall, and leave the rest of the area darker.
Shake the bottle thoroughly every time, as the metal pigment settles at the bottom. Smooth and unify the ground, as every groove stands out on a metal surface. Work in thin coats and let each one dry; dragging a brush over paint that has set up will leave streaks. Verify the thinning for spraying in the manufacturer's instructions. A matte varnish damps the metallic look, so apply it to finished metal only where that is the intention.
For painters of figures who want to build colored metal with lights and shadows instead of a flat coat. A figure, brushes and thinner are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
