True Metallic Metal SHADE - Forged Red

Forged Red is an acrylic shade from the True Metallic Metal range by Vallejo, that is, from the range intended for painting metals with metallic paints. The SHADE designation says where it belongs: into the hollows, joints and folds, onto the turned-away sides of parts and under overhangs, where metal is meant to retreat into darkness. It is used on red-colored armor and helmets, on metal shields and machine covers, on exhausts, engine parts and everywhere a surface is meant to act heated and dark.

How the SHADE position is worked with

The darker position of the shade is applied first or in a targeted way into the shadows, and only above it comes the lighter LIGHT variant on the edges and lit places. The difference between the two positions gives metal a depth a single uniform coat never has. The transition can be softened by mixing the two positions together and applying an intermediate grade. The SHADE shade on its own will also serve to damp a red metal that shines too much.

Application tips

Shake the bottle thoroughly before every use, as the metal pigment sinks to the bottom faster than ordinary colorant. Smooth the ground, as a metal area will accentuate every groove. Apply thin coats and let them dry; dragging a brush over paint that has set up will leave streaks. Verify the recommended thinning for spraying in the manufacturer's instructions. A matte varnish damps the metallic effect.
