A wooden base of circular shape, 15 cm in diameter, intended for displaying finished work. A plinth does two things with a model at once: it raises it above the table top, so that you look at it as at an exhibit, and it gives it a firm foundation by which it can be safely taken hold of without touching the model itself.
A round plan is rewarding with figures and busts, because it has no front and no back and will take a view from every angle. A diameter of 15 cm is enough for a figure, a smaller vehicle or a model of an aircraft in a small scale. In a cabinet it pays to unify the same plinths: the collection then comes across as orderly and the individual pieces do not overpower one another.
A light model is enough to glue on with cyanoacrylate or two-part glue, while on a heavier piece a pin is safer: a hole is drilled into the leg of the figure as well as into the base and the joint is secured with wire. If the wood has no surface finish, it can be stained, oiled or varnished before the model is fitted; a darker tone acts as a calmer background and the colors of the model stand out on it. Fit the model only once it is finished, so that the surface of the base does not get dirty during painting.
The package holds the base. A model, a figure, a descriptive label and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
