Xpress Chameleon Orange is a fluid acrylic with a shifting cast toward orange. It is laid in one coat on a light ground and creates the transition from a saturated core to lit edges straight away.
Responsibility details are not available.
The epithet Chameleon refers to the shade not holding one flat tone. Depending on the strength of the application and on how the light falls on the area, it shifts between a warm orange and a yellowish undertone. On rounded shapes such as helmets, cowlings or dragon wings, that creates a transition which would be fairly laborious to build with a brush.
Orange is notoriously non-covering. Anyone building it the ordinary way starts with a white or yellow ground, then lays three or four translucent coats and watches that no blotches appear in them. One coat of this type of paint shortens that sequence and above all removes the risk that the last coat goes on unevenly and the whole part has to be sanded down.
Shake it, load a decent amount onto the brush and spread it across the whole area of the part in one smooth stroke. What is essential is not to stop halfway: with these paints the boundary between a dried and a fresh application shows as a visible edge. A dried area will take a further shade from the same line, so a color transition can be layered as well.
The translucent nature has its price too. An orange laid over a green or blue ground shifts into a dirty tone and the result can no longer be put right with a further application. Anyone unsure about the ground should try the shade out first on an offcut of sprue carrying the same primer as the model.
