A cool grayed military green from the Xpress Color line. In a single application it colors an area and shades the hollows; it suits field blouses, webbing straps and the canvas covers of equipment.

Commando Green belongs among the paints meant to color a surface in a single pass. The binder is thin, there is a great deal of pigment in it, and so the fluid runs off the raised areas into the hollows and dries darker there. The base tone and the shadow therefore arise at once. The shade itself is a cool grayed green of the kind worn by the field blouses of infantry, by canvas webbing straps and by pouches.
It almost always goes wrong before the bottle is even opened, and that through the choice of ground. On a smooth glossy coat the fluid draws together into beads and the ground keeps showing through between them, because it has nothing to grip. The surface has to be matte and slightly absorbent. If there is already a gloss on the model, go over it with a matte varnish and let it cure for a day. Only then will the paint spread evenly and the shadow sit where it belongs.
The green takes the company of sand and brown tones well, so on a figure it stands beside trousers, belts and wooden stocks without overpowering them. On a more extensive area, say the tarpaulin of a truck, divide the work into smaller sections bounded by an edge or a seam. A dried transition in the middle of an open area will not disappear, whereas on an edge nobody will find it.
