The bright pink Xpress Fluid Pink as a ready shade. It is not lightened by adding white, so it stays clean and does not go chalky, and in the hollows it creates a darker tone by itself.

Anyone who mixes a pink from red and white knows the result: the tone does lighten, but at the same time it dulls and takes on a chalky, milky cast. White does not raise only the lightness; it takes saturation away. Fluid Pink is a ready translucent pink in which that compromise does not arise, because the lightness is provided by the white ground beneath it, not by white pigment in it.
The route to a clean pink by hand means layering thin translucent coats of red over white and waiting between them for it to dry. There tend to be five or even six of them, each adds a measure of saturation and each carries the risk of going on unevenly. Here one stroke is enough and the work on the shadow falls away too: in the folds the shade thickens by itself, so a skirt or hair gains depth with no special darker mix.
The shade is translucent, so anything beneath it shows through. On unprepared gray plastic the pink will come out dirty; on a white primer, by contrast, it glows. Anyone who wants to soften the tone into a pastel lays it over a light pink or cream ground instead of adding anything white to the bottle.
Strong colors of this type tend to be semi-matte once dry and a little sensitive to the touch. A figure that will be picked up calls for a protective layer of varnish; a matte one returns it to a velvety impression, a satin one leaves the shade part of its brightness. The varnish is applied only after several hours, so that the coat does not dissolve into it.
