The murky gray-green paint Troll Green from the Xpress Color line. It colors a figure in a single application and brings out the folds by itself.

A green with an admixture of gray and brown, that is a shade that never looks artificial. Modelers reach for it for the skin of giants and forest monsters, for moss growing over stones, for muddy water in a ditch and for canvas parts that have lain outdoors a long time. As it dries the paint draws into the grooves by itself, so wrinkles and folds come out with no further shading.
The most common finishing technique over this shade is a dry brush. It is also the one that stresses the surface mechanically the most: hard bristles abrade the raised places, and if you lean into them before the coat has hardened you will scrape it down to the ground. The film becomes tacky within a few minutes, but it goes on gaining strength for many hours. It therefore pays to give the part a quiet evening and to start on bringing the edges out the next day.
If you are planning a harder procedure, that is a coarse pigment, a wire brush for a rusted area or heavy rubbing, put a protective varnish between the paint and the next step. The dried green will stay whole under it even when you work over it fairly violently.
It serves just as well on a tangle of roots, on stumps and on grassy islands glued to a base. Loose materials have a color of their own, but one pass of this green will even them out and the whole base will start to look like one piece of landscape instead of a glued-on collage.
On a light gray or white ground the shade reads as fresh moss, on a sand one more like marsh mud. The difference is noticeable, so try the ground out on a spare piece of sprue.
