The Il-62 long-range jet airliner in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker HPH Models. The brand casts its parts from polyurethane resin into silicone molds in a vacuum, which gives a fine and crisp surface. The color schemes cover the machines of the Soviet carrier as well as the Czechoslovak scheme under which one of the CSA aircraft flew.
The Il-62 was a Soviet long-range jet airliner and at the time it appeared the largest machine of its kind in the world. It carries four engines in pairs on the sides of the rear fuselage, and the horizontal stabilizers sit at the top of the vertical tail. Because of this layout the center of gravity is shifted aft, and the aircraft was therefore given a retractable support strut under the tail so that it would not tip over during loading. Besides the Soviet carrier it also flew with Czechoslovak Airlines, and one of their machines appeared in a memorable special color scheme.
An airliner stands or falls on a smooth surface, because it is painted to a gloss and every unevenness then shows. So wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with dish soap to remove the mold release agent, and before painting spray them with a primer that will show the imperfections. They are glued with cyanoacrylate, that is, super glue. Use respiratory protection when sanding. On the polished metal of the lower surfaces, lacquer metallic shades applied over a smooth black base work well.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted as a resin kit. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
