A set from the SPACE range for the Soviet MiG-21MF jet fighter in 1:48 scale. This is not an airplane kit but a cockpit accessory. It holds 3D decals of the main instrument panel and of the side consoles, and with them photo-etched steel parts and seat belts. The decals have relief and color printing, so they go onto smooth plastic and the cockpit is finished in a single evening. The manufacturer has designated the set for the Rye Field Model kit.
The MiG-21 is among the most widespread jet fighters of all time and the MF version was one of the most numerous. It flew with dozens of air arms, the Czechoslovak Air Force among them, so it is a type many modelers have a personal connection to. The cockpit is cramped and the instrument panel takes up a small area in it, which makes it all the more important that the dial faces and the color coding match.
Spray the panels in a dark shade and let them cure. Release the decal in water, seat it and press it down gently with a cotton swab. Do not use a decal softener; it would attack the printed resin. Bend the photo-etched parts over the edge of a ruler, shape the belts with tweezers and fix them with a drop of super glue. Apply the final matte varnish in a thin coat.
The set is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The Rye Field Model kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
