A decal set for a model of the American P-51D Mustang fighter in 1:48 scale from the maker DEF Model. It belongs to a range devoted to movie subjects and it is the light edition: it holds the decals alone, whereas the full version of the set adds further parts to them. This is neither a model nor a kit but an accessory that gives a finished model a particular identity.
The P-51D was the peak of the Mustang's development and one of the most important fighters of the Second World War. The bubble canopy gave the pilot an all-round view, while the Merlin engine of British origin together with a large fuel capacity gave it the range to escort bombers all the way to the target and back. Characteristic of it as well are the colorful finishes of the noses and tails, by which the individual groups recognized each other in the air.
A decal needs a smooth gloss base, or a silvery milky haze will form beneath it. So give the area a gloss coat before applying it and let it cure. Release the decal in water, seat it and press it down gently with a cotton swab. On intricate places a decal softener will help. Seal the finished work with a matte or satin varnish to match the rest of the model.
The set is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
