This is a decal sheet, not a kit. In the package you will find no plastic parts, no body and no wheels, as you get only the decals, that is the markings, of a racing livery. To be able to use them, you must already own the model of the Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 from Fujimi in 1:24 scale. The set is designed for that kit.
Why modelers buy such sheets: a kit usually contains only one or two liveries, yet the same racing car started with many teams and in many colors. A collector, though, wants a particular car from a particular race and season, and that is exactly what a sheet from Studio27 makes possible.
The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is a supercar with the most striking feature a modern Mercedes had: doors that open upward like gull wings. It is an avowed tribute to the legendary 300 SL Gullwing of the 1950s. On a finished model it is the detail everyone notices first. The racing version, the SLS AMG GT3, became one of the most widespread GT3 cars of its time and raced all over the world.
The livery on this sheet belongs to the car of the Sport & You team from the Italian championship for GT cars (Italian GT Championship) of the 2015 season, a national championship of GT3 and GT Cup cars which is run at circuits such as Monza, Imola, Mugello or Misano.
The key rule: a decal is applied exclusively to gloss clear coat. On a matte surface air is caught under the film of the decal and the edges start to silver, which is the most common mistake by which a superbly part-built model can be spoiled. So coat the body with gloss clear coat before the decals.
The SLS has a markedly curved body and large sponsor areas. On such shapes decal softener is practically a necessity, as the decal is drawn to the shape and loses its edges. Watch out as well for the fact that the sheet does not cover the whole body: you have to spray the basic color of the car yourself and it has to match the decals in shade. Once it is dry comes a second layer of clear coat and polishing if you wish, which makes the decals disappear below the surface and gives the model that wet look of a racing car.
The package contains decals only. The kit, paints, clear coat and softener are not included, and other SLS liveries and paints or clear coats to complete the car with exist as separate items.
