About product

1:35 Panzer IV Ausf. F/G — stowage box with rack, 24th Panzer Division, version 2 (Lithokraft)

A 3D-printed resin set in 1:35 scale for the early versions of the Panzer IV Ausf. F and G tank. The manufacturer lists it as a carrier rack and a box, that is two parts that belong together, so check the contents of the package on the box. It is a detail accessory, not a kit of the vehicle. The manufacturer makes two versions and they differ in the placing of the latches of the box, so compare the real subject with photographs.

The real subject

The Panzer IV Ausf. F and G were built between 1941 and 1943; it was on them that the long 7.5 cm KwK 40 gun entered the turret, which made the Panzer IV the main German tank of the second half of the war. The 24th Panzer Division was formed in 1941 by converting the 1st Cavalry Division, fought on the southern sector of the Eastern Front and was destroyed at Stalingrad at the beginning of 1943. Units had their stowage racks and boxes made themselves, so they differed between divisions in shape and in fittings.

Building and painting tips

Wash the set in lukewarm soapy water before gluing and let it dry. Cut off the remains of the print supports with a modeling scalpel, level the surface with a fine file and protect your airways while sanding. Resin holds only with cyanoacrylate glue. Seat the rack before the box so that you keep control of the angle. After the primer, paint the whole assembly at once and bring out the shadows in the corners of the box with a wash; dented sheet metal will take a light dry brush as well.

Who the set is for

  • modelers of the early versions of the Panzer IV
  • anyone interested in the unit modifications of the 24th Panzer Division
  • builders of scenes from the Eastern Front and from Stalingrad
  • modelers for whom the plastic parts from the kit are not enough

This is an accessory for a model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The manufacturer lists the set as both a rack and a box. Check the exact contents of the package on the box before building, because the assembly is made up of parts that belong together.

The two differ in where the latches sit on the box. Compare which form fits the vehicle you are building with period photographs.

For the early Ausf. F and G, as the box states. On later versions the shape of the superstructure and of the fittings changes, so compare the fit with the hull beforehand.
