The first part of the photo-etched set in 1:35 for the DUKW amphibious vehicle is devoted to the main areas of the hull and replaces plastic sheet with metal. It fits the Italeri kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The opening part of the Royal Model photo-etched set concentrates on the main areas of the American DUKW amphibious vehicle. The metal components replace plastic sheet, loops, running boards and grilles, so that a model matches the real thickness of the material.
The Italeri kit will serve as the base; it is bought separately.
The DUKW arose in 1942 from a simple idea: a floating hull was set on the chassis of a truck with six driven wheels. A propeller and a rudder were added at the rear and pumps for water inside. The vehicle was the first in the world to be given a system for inflating the tires while under way, so the driver could adapt the pressure to soft sand as well as a hard road. It carried supplies from ships straight onto the beach and continued on land without any change, whether in Sicily, in Normandy or at the crossing of the Rhine. The abbreviation in the name is not a word but a factory code describing the year, the drive and the number of axles; the soldiers, though, translated it their own way at once.
Mark the bends with the blunt side of a knife along the inside of a part, and the sheet will then break exactly at the line. Hold long rims down with a ruler while joining them. Level the transitions between metal and plastic with a drop of thin putty.
Obtain the paints, putties and the plastic base separately.
