An injection-molded plastic kit of the Japanese Kaiten type 10 human torpedo in 1:35 scale from the Ukrainian maker MikroMir. MikroMir works with short-run technology and concentrates on craft that other manufacturers do not make. For the build that means one thing: the parts need patient dry-fitting and fine-tuning, but the result is worth it.
The Kaiten were Japanese piloted torpedoes, used in the last phase of the war in the Pacific and released from carrier submarines. Type 10 stood apart in that line: it alone derived from the electrically driven type 92 torpedo, while the other types built on the oxygen-fueled type 93 torpedo. It remained at the prototype stage and never went into action.
With a short run reckon with cleaning up the flash and with filling the longitudinal joint of the hull - it is best sanded under water, so that no dust rises. A long smooth body will forgive no unevenness, so lay on a primer coat and sand the joint again. A uniform dark finish will be brought to life by fine highlighting of the edges, weathering from sea salt and a stand or a short diorama with the crew.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
