A set of masks for painting the road wheels of the American M46 Patton medium tank in 1:35 scale. The set is cut for kits from Dragon. Postwar American tanks have large road wheels with a prominent disc and a wide rubber tire band, so the line between the two areas is one of the most noticeable details of the running gear.
The M46 Patton came out of a thorough rebuild of the earlier M26 Pershing. It received a new powerpack with a stronger engine and a new transmission, which removed the main weakness of its predecessor, its poor mobility. It was used in the Korean War and became the first of a long line of American tanks carrying the Patton name.
The wheel is placed in the cutout in the flexible mask, which covers the rubber tire band and exposes the disc. Paint the tire band first, then fit the mask and spray over the disc. Do not stretch the mask, press it down with a pointed wooden stick once it is seated and spray perpendicular to the surface in thin coats. According to the manufacturer the masks can be used again after cleaning.
