A railway water pump is exactly the kind of object that gives a scene meaning: it explains why the track runs right here and gives the diorama a vertical element for the composition to lean on.
Equipment for taking on water was an essential part of every station in the age of steam. A steam locomotive used an enormous amount of water and without regular replenishment it could not cover a long distance. The swing arm could be turned over the tender, and once the tank was full it was folded aside out of the loading gauge. Objects of this kind often stayed in use long after steam working ended.
Wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with detergent and cut the casting blocks off with a saw. Glue them with cyanoacrylate and bend the photo-etched parts over an edge. This build looks best when you layer corrosion onto it: start with a dark base, then apply rust shades with a sponge and finally add water marks with a dark wash running vertically down. Leave the chain hanging free.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
