About product

Model of the Maxim heavy machine gun, two pieces (Spalah)

This is small armament, not a model of a vehicle: two pieces of the Maxim heavy machine gun from the Ukrainian brand Spalah, 3D-printed from photopolymer resin. The box states two pieces. On a weapon as intricate as this, where the barrel cooling jacket, the ammunition belt and the wheeled carriage with its shield all come together, printing is irreplaceable. The particular scale is not stated here, because the manufacturer's data for this item are not unambiguous, and we recommend checking it before you build.

The real subject

The Maxim is the first truly successful automatic machine gun, and in its Russian and later Soviet form it was built with a water-cooled barrel and a bulky jacket. The most widespread version stood on a wheeled carriage with an armored shield, which gave the crew cover and at the same time made it an easily recognizable weapon. It was fielded in both world wars and, thanks to stockpiles, appeared in far later conflicts as well.

Building and painting tips

Wash the print resin residue off the parts, cut the print supports away and sand the marks with respiratory protection. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint the weapon separately, preferably with an airbrush over a primer. The cooling jacket and the shield come to life with a dark wash and a fine dry brush, and it pays to pick the ammunition belt out in a slightly warmer metallic shade so that it does not merge with the body of the weapon.

Who the set is for

  • builders of dioramas with infantry armament
  • modelers who add faithful weapons to their figures
  • more experienced modelers with some resin practice

This is an accessory, not a kit. Figures, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The particular scale is not stated here. The box states 1:35, but the manufacturer's own part designation points to 1:72. We recommend checking the scale before you build.

The box states two pieces.

By the water-cooled barrel with its bulky jacket and by the wheeled carriage with an armored shield for the crew.

Cyanoacrylate glue, that is super glue. Cement for polystyrene will not hold on resin.
