The late Sd.Kfz. 251 Ausf. D half-track gets further fine metal elements with this set. The designation 1:35 Sd.Kfz. 251D - Part 2 refers to the second part of the detailing of this type. Intended for the Tamiya kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set follows on from the basic detailing of the German medium half-track carrier and covers further areas of the vehicle. The designation second part means that the manufacturer has divided the work on this type into several separate packages. The model of the carrier is not included. The target kit is Tamiya.
The Ausf. D form replaced the older variants from 1943 and was above all easier to build. A simple sloping plate ran across the rear instead of the earlier faceted shape and the tool bins moved straight into the sides of the hull. It was this version that was built in the greatest numbers and it is the form most people picture when they think of a German half-track. The vehicle carried Panzergrenadier squads, towed light guns and, in many conversions, served as an ambulance, a signals car or a carrier for rocket weapons. The tracks with needle bearings were demanding to maintain, but they gave the vehicle surprisingly good cross-country performance.
The side bins and their lids are exactly the places where thin metal changes the impression of a model most. Before seating them, check whether the edges line up with the plastic part and, if need be, sand the plastic lightly. Apply dust from the bottom upward and let it fade, so that the transition does not look artificial.
Paints, glues and the kit of the vehicle are supplied separately.
