A set of masks for painting the wheels of the German Sd.Kfz. 8 heavy half-track tractor in 1:35 scale. The set is cut for kits from Trumpeter. Half-tracks combine the worst of both worlds: they have tires on the front axle as well as a large number of road wheels in the tracked running gear, so painting the tire bands takes a disproportionate amount of time.
The Sd.Kfz. 8 was a heavy half-track tractor built to tow the heaviest artillery and to recover vehicles. The cab and the body look civilian, but the performance of the running gear was exceptional for its day. Vehicles of this kind formed the invisible backbone of the German army: without them the heavy guns would never have reached their firing positions and damaged tanks would have stayed on the battlefield.
The wheel is placed in the cutout in the flexible mask, which covers the rubber tire band or the tire and exposes the disc. Paint the tire band first, then fit the mask and spray over the disc. Do not stretch the mask, press it down with a pointed wooden stick once it is seated and spray perpendicular to the surface in thin coats. According to the manufacturer the masks can be used again after cleaning.
