An injected plastic model of the unmanned reconnaissance vehicle Tu-143 Reys in 1:35 scale from Clear Prop Models, in the extended Advanced edition. This is a new mold; the Advanced version usually adds supplementary details (photo-etch and masks, for example) to the plastic compared with the base version. Because this is a pilotless drone, the model has no conventional glazed cockpit; it carries reconnaissance equipment in the nose and both a launch and a recovery system.
The Tupolev Tu-143 Reys was a jet unmanned reconnaissance vehicle developed in the Soviet Union. It launched with a solid-fuel booster from a mobile launch ramp, over the target area it carried out photographic or imaging reconnaissance and, once the task was done, it landed by parachute to be used again. The system was operated by a number of armies; the Czechoslovak Air Force had it in service as well, which makes it an interesting real subject with a regional tie.
Glue the plastic with thin modeling cement and sand the seams carefully; in the larger 1:35 scale imperfections are more visible. Attach the photo-etch of the Advanced edition with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Lay on a primer before painting. The smooth surface of the drone suits even coats from an airbrush and fine shading; final washes and light pigments will bring out the panel lines and the soiling of service. Make use of any stand or ramp for a striking presentation.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
