An injection-molded plastic kit of the Japanese fleet destroyer Kagero in 1:350 scale from the Japanese brand Hasegawa. The box names the class as Type Koh, that is the Japanese designation for type A, and defines the kit as the Super Detail release. In 1:350 scale the result is a model over a third of a meter long, so there is plenty of room for the armament, the boats and the fine detail of the superstructure.
Kagero was the lead ship of the class of the same name of nineteen fleet destroyers that the Imperial Japanese Navy put into service at the end of the 1930s. They were enlarged and improved ships of the preceding Asashio class, over one hundred eighteen meters long, with a top speed of around 35 knots and a crew of around two hundred forty men. The armament consisted of six 12.7 cm guns in three twin turrets and eight 610 mm torpedo tubes for the long oxygen torpedoes, the most dangerous weapon of their kind. Kagero herself was damaged by a mine off the Solomon Islands in May 1943 and sank.
Glue the hull, fill the seam along the keel and paint the deck before you set the superstructure in place. Leave the fine railing and ladder parts for the end and glue them with super glue in a small amount. Bring the gray hull to life with a dark wash in the recesses and a light drybrush on the edges. Set the propellers and the anchors apart with a metallic shade. The finished model is long and thin, so prepare safe storage or a stand for it in advance.
