A plastic kit in 1:350 scale from the Ukrainian maker Mikromir, which devotes itself to submarines consistently. The subject is the USS Tullibee, a small American nuclear submarine built in a single example. In 1:350 it is a small model with a simple outline - a good start for a collection of submarines and an accompaniment beside larger boats.
The Tullibee was designed exclusively for fighting other submarines and is the first nuclear submarine built directly for that task. She went into the water on 27 April 1960 and entered service on 9 November of the same year. Her drive is the essential thing: in place of a reduction gear she received a turboelectric transmission, because toothed gears are the main source of noise. She was the first nuclear submarine with this solution and paid for it in speed - the reactor had a small output and the boat was slow. In return she carried the first genuinely integrated sonar suite, in which a passive ring array was combined with a spherical active array in the bow. From New London she then served with a submarine development group for the evaluation of sonars and the practice of tactics. She was withdrawn in 1988.
Fill and sand the joint of the hull halves smooth. Align the conning tower and the rudders to the axis; on a small model a deviation shows at once. Lighten the dark finish and separate the underwater part with a waterline. Prepare a stand in advance - otherwise a rounded hull will not stand up in the display case.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
