A cast figure of a First World War pilot in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Plusmodel. According to its designation it goes with Albatros fighters. The biplanes of the Great War have an open cockpit and can be seen right through, so a figure beside the machine or in the cockpit does more for the overall impression than any other accessory.
Albatros fighters were among the most widespread German types of their day. Their hallmarks were the slim fuselage of plywood shells and the water-cooled inline six-cylinder engine, which gave the aircraft good speed. The pilots wore a leather flying helmet, goggles and often a long leather coat; at altitudes where an open cockpit offered no protection at all, that was not fashion but necessity.
Wash the figure in lukewarm water with detergent, cut the casting block off with a saw and glue it with cyanoacrylate. Do the leather parts with a dark brown base and a sheen only on the edges. The helmet and the coat will take a hint of wear applied with a dry brush. Render the glass of the goggles with gloss clear and a small highlight. In 1:48 scale a grown figure works out at about three and a half centimeters.
The figure is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and the model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
