Figures of farmyard poultry in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit but an accessory for a scene. 1:48 scale is the most usual one for aircraft models, so poultry most often appears in scenes of field airfields, where aircraft were parked beside farms and outbuildings, and of course on purely rural dioramas.
A hen by a wall, on a dunghill or between the wheels of a parked vehicle is a detail that tells the viewer at once where the scene takes place. A rooster and a hen together also allow a small scene of their own within a larger whole. It works well to set the animals at different angles and to place one of them at the edge of the composition, so that the scene does not look staged.
Rinse and degrease the figures, cut the casting remnants and gates off with a sharp knife and sand the area. Match the glue to the material; on small parts cyanoacrylate serves well. A primer is essential. Paint the feathers in layers from a darker base and lay the lighter shade on with a dry brush so that the texture stands out. Pick out the comb and wattles in a strong red and the beak and legs in ocher. A dark wash into the recesses adds depth and a flat varnish evens the sheen out.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, glue and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
