The Dornier Wal was a twin-engined flying boat of the 1920s with a distinctive layout: the engines sat above the wing in a single nacelle, one behind the other, one with a tractor and the other with a pusher propeller, and instead of floats the hull carried short sponsons added along its sides. The machine came about at a time when Germany was not allowed to build larger aircraft, so it was produced in Italy and in other countries. It made its name on long-distance flights: aircraft of this type crossed the Atlantic and took part in polar expeditions. For a modeler it is a subject with a most unusual silhouette.
The hull of a flying boat is large and its joints are long, so allow for filling and sanding; restore the panel lines after sanding. Seat the engine nacelle exactly on the center line and check that both propellers sit at the same height. The bottom of the hull on a marine aircraft tends to be worn quite differently from the upper surfaces: salt deposits, abrasion from the water and marks from being hauled up a ramp. Glue the glazing and the bracing only after painting.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
