A painting mask for the British experimental Fairey Delta 2 aircraft in 1:72 scale from the Clear Prop Models brand. It serves to cover the glazing during spraying.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory for builders of a model of the British research aircraft Fairey Delta 2 in 1:72 scale. The set belongs to the painting stage: the pieces cover the cockpit glazing and the other places that are not to receive paint. The aircraft model is not included; the set is obtained to go with it.
The Fairey Delta 2 was a British single-engine research aircraft with a delta wing, built to explore flight beyond the speed of sound. In 1956 a pilot used it to break the absolute speed record by a wide margin and became the first person to fly level faster than a thousand miles per hour. An unusual feature was the drooping nose: so that the pilot could see the runway past the long pointed nose on landing, the whole forward fuselage could be tilted downward. One of the two machines built was later rebuilt to research the wing of a supersonic airliner.
A small cockpit in the middle of a glossy airframe will not stand coarse work, so polish the base before masking and rid it of dust. Lay the mask on dry, align it to the frame and only then press it down. On large delta surfaces it works to spray twice from a perpendicular direction, so that no streak forms anywhere. Before you take the set off, let the last coat flash off, but not cure completely.
The set serves for masking during painting. The model itself and paints are not in the package, unless stated otherwise.
