The large kit 1:72 KC-135 R/FR Stratotanker from Italeri captures the four-engined aircraft used for refueling in flight.
Responsibility details are not available.
A plastic kit of a large jet aircraft from the Italeri range. Two versions are given in the name, the American R and the French FR, both associated with a modernized powerplant. A model of this span is among the pieces for which space has to be allowed for in advance.
The Stratotanker has served since the 1950s as a flying fuel store and its derivatives fly to this day. The R version underwent an extensive rebuild in which the machine received modern turbofan engines with greater thrust and lower consumption, which extended its life by decades. The FR designation belongs to the tankers of the French Air Force, which went through the same modernization of their powerplant and refueled French combat aircraft in European and overseas operations.
With a long fuselage it pays to check the fit of the halves dry and to divide the gluing into sections, so that the joint does not run out anywhere. A gloss metallic surface is demanding: the base has to be perfectly smooth, because a metallic finish will bring out every scratch. It is a good idea to protect the extensive glazing and the white upper surface with a mask from the very first spray coat.
The delivery includes plastic parts that have to be assembled and painted. Paints, varnishes and glue are not enclosed, unless stated otherwise.
