Airfix Nakajima B5N2 Kate is a plastic kit of a Japanese carrier-borne torpedo bomber in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the Japanese Nakajima B5N2 carrier-borne torpedo bomber in 1:72 scale from the British firm Airfix. Kate is the code name the Allies gave the type. It is a fairly large three-seat machine, so the model comes out at a good size even in the smaller scale.
The B5N was a Japanese carrier torpedo bomber and, at the time it appeared, one of the best machines of its kind in the world: it had retractable landing gear, a folding wing and good endurance at a time when other navies were still using biplanes. The B5N2 version received a more powerful engine. It was these machines that carried torpedoes in the attack on Pearl Harbor and took part in sinking several American aircraft carriers in 1942. The crew numbered three: pilot, navigator and radio operator with the rear machine gun.
The long glazed canopy for three crew members has a number of frames, so painting masks or very careful work with tape are worth having. Finish and paint the inside of the cockpit before you close the fuselage up. The Japanese dark green upper surface comes alive if you lighten it gently on the edges after spraying; flaking paint on the wing leading edges is typical of Japanese carrier machines and can be suggested with a sponge. Fit the torpedo or the bombs last.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
