An injection-molded plastic kit of the British Mark I tank of the First World War in 1:76 scale from the Vintage Classics range by Airfix. The model represents the male variant armed with guns. The kit comes from a classic mold of the late 1960s and carries the artwork of its day; the finished model is some 102 mm long.
The Mark I tank first appeared on the battlefield on 15 September 1916 at Flers-Courcelette on the Somme and marked a turning point in the conduct of the war. Its characteristic rhomboid shape, with the tracks running around the whole outline, let it cross trenches and obstacles. The male version carried two 6-pounder naval guns in side sponsons and several machine guns, which made it a feared means against the enemy positions.
Use a thin glue for plastic and clean up the mold seams of the older mold. Bring the rhomboid outline out over a primer base with the period British green-brown. Mud effects and pigments on the tracks will give the model the authentic trench look of the Somme.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
