The plastic kit of the harbor fire boat The Firefighter in 1:87 scale appears in the Revell Classics edition. It is a classic ship model with a split hull, a superstructure and deck equipment, built from injection-molded plastic and glued with ordinary modeling cement. The 1:87 scale matches the size used for model railways, so the model will fit into a railway or harbor scene as well.
Harbor fire boats are specialized vessels that provide fire protection in ports and on waterways. Their hallmarks are powerful pumps and the swiveling water monitors mounted on the superstructure and the masts, with which fires on ships, on piers and in shoreside buildings can be tackled. Besides firefighting they help with pumping water out of damaged vessels and with rescue work. It is precisely the array of monitors that gives these boats their characteristic silhouette, which the model carries into a display case.
Glue the hull first and let the joint cure thoroughly before sanding; the seam along the keel is the most visible thing on a finished model. It is practical to paint the decks and the superstructure separately before final assembly, because masking a finished boat is laborious. Use a thin cement for plastic that wicks into the joint, and on small parts rather apply a drop with a stick or a needle. Apply a primer before painting to even out the surface. Add fine parts such as the railings and the monitors right at the end. The model looks good on a stand or on a board with a suggested water surface.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
