About product

The Hammerboy figure, first half of the 15th century, 75 mm (PANZER ART FI75-034)

A resin collector's figure 75 mm tall from the Polish brand PANZER ART, the manufacturer's part number FI75-034. It belongs to the military part of the large-format 75 mm line, where its sister items are further medieval figures, for example an Italian commander of the second half of the 15th century, a knight with a falchion or a missile-armed soldier from the beginning of the 15th century. The height in this line is given in millimeters rather than as a ratio, and it is the main purchasing figure. This is not a kit of a machine but a standalone figure meant for painting.

The real subject

The first half of the 15th century is the period when plate armor reached its peak and already covered the whole body. An edged weapon was no longer enough against it, which brought impact weapons to the fore: war maces, hammers and polearms, which did not cut the armor open but dented it and stunned the man inside. The nickname of the figure points to this kind of armament. Exactly how the figure is equipped and armed is something to check on the box.

Building and painting tips

Wash the resin with soapy water before gluing and cut off the casting blocks. Go over the mold seams with a scraper; at this size every irregularity shows through the paint. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), not with cement for plastic. A primer is essential. At 75 mm it pays to paint with a brush and build up layers: finish the skin and the eyes first, then the fabric, the leather and the metal separately. Set the armor apart from the cloth by its sheen, which shows best over a smooth base.

Who the figure is for

  • For figure painters who want a large area for layered painting
  • For collectors of medieval figures in a large format
  • For a display case as a standalone piece, not for a diorama with vehicles
  • For more experienced modelers, because of the resin and the demanding face

The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, glue and the base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

In this line the manufacturer gives the height in millimeters rather than as a ratio: the figure is 75 mm tall. Working a ratio out from the millimeters is not advisable, because it depends on where the height is measured.

No. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and the paints and glue are not included in the package.

From resin, and it is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). It needs a primer before painting.

It points to impact weapons of the war hammer kind, which came to the fore against plate armor in the first half of the 15th century. The particular rendition is something to check on the box.
