A vise with a ball joint for tilting in any direction, from DSPIAE. A clamped part turns without having to be taken out of the jaws.
Responsibility details are not available.
A vise whose clamping head sits on a ball joint, so that a clamped part can be tilted and turned into any position. It sounds like a small thing, but in fine work it has a practical consequence: the jaws do not have to be released. Repeated removing and reclamping is in fact the most common reason why a small glued-on detail snaps off or why an already painted surface gets scratched.
Tighten the joint so that it does not move under the weight of the part but can still be adjusted by hand; overtightening damages the mating surfaces. Tighten the jaws only enough for the part to hold, and with thin-walled parts put a piece of soft plastic or cork between the jaw and the material. Rest against the bench while working, not against the joint itself.
It pays to take the joint apart and wipe it from time to time. Sanding dust on the mating surfaces makes the joint either stiff or, on the contrary, unable to hold a position.
The model and tools are not included in the package.
A ball-joint vise goes well together with a table-top one. The table-top one gives a firm base for work that calls for force; the ball-joint one gives the position a hand would otherwise have to hold. In painting and paneling it is the choice of position that decides the result.
