DSPIAE, 3.0 mm spherical bit

This is a separate bit, not a tool: a spherical head 3.0 mm in diameter for the DSPIAE hand tool for chamfering and smoothing edges. The spherical shape rounds an edge off into an arc and lets you hollow out a spherical recess. The 3.0 mm diameter is the middle one of the four offered, which makes it the most versatile choice: it will handle fine work as well as openings that the smallest head can no longer cope with.

Who it is for

For those who already own the chamfering tool from this maker. On its own the bit has no use; it needs a holder with the matching collet. If this is your first bit, the middle diameter is a sensible choice, because it still gives a usable result on both smaller and larger openings, whereas the extreme diameters are only usable within their own range.

The bit is sharp, so keep it out of the reach of children. Work with light pressure and few turns of the hand; plastic needs very little, and heavy pressure will not smooth an edge but break it out. Try the cut on an offcut of the same plastic first and remember how many turns give the depth you want, because material once removed cannot be put back, and with the middle diameter it is easy to miss that the cut has grown.
