A hand carving set: an aluminum handle and ten interchangeable tips of hard high-speed steel. It is not a drill and not a rotary tool; the tips are guided by hand. Unlike a knife, which cuts with a straight edge, they have a profiled cutting edge, so they take a groove of a given shape out of the material. The set contains two pieces of each of five profiles: a 0.5 mm round one, a 1 mm half-round one and flat, triangular and irregular gouges 2 mm wide.
Work in short strokes and always away from yourself; guide the tip instead of pressing on it. Clamp the material or hold it against a support, and never hold it in your palm against the direction of the cut. Engrave into plastic with several light strokes; a single deep stroke will slip out of the line. Wipe the tips after use and store them so that they do not touch other tools, as they blunt faster against metal than against the material they cut. Changing a tip in the handle is quick, so it pays to alternate the profiles according to the line you need at the moment.
The tips are sharp. Work carefully, store them with the edges covered and out of reach of children.
