The DSPIAE HW-01 replacement saw blade with very fine teeth

A blade for the modeling hand saw with a high density of teeth. It is precisely the density of the teeth that decides what the cut looks like: the more teeth are in contact with the material at any moment, the smaller the load on a single tooth, the more evenly the force is spread and the cleaner the edge. A coarse blade in thin plastic, by contrast, bites, tears and the cut goes astray.

What it is suited to

Thin plastic, small parts, separating parts from photo-etched frets and places where a coarser blade would remove more material than is actually needed. It will handle resin and softer metals too, but on those proceed more slowly.

How to work with it

• Cut by pulling toward you and without pressure; the saw should cut under the weight of the blade itself.
• Start with a shallow notch at a small angle; with the saw held upright the blade slips.
• Guide the cut smoothly, as stopping and starting again leaves a step in the edge.
• Store the blade dry and do not put anything heavy on it, as thin sheet bends.

Who it is for

The replacement is for owners of the DSPIAE modeling hand saw. The saw itself is not included in the package and the manufacturer also makes a blade with coarser teeth for it, which suits thicker material.

It pays to have both types of blade to hand and choose them according to the material: the fine one for thin parts and the coarser one where a thicker profile has to be cut through. A fine blade in thick material clogs and the cut slows down. The teeth are sharp; keep the blade out of the reach of children.
