A kit of the Kirov battle airship, one of the best known units of the strategy game Red Alert 2. The finished model measures around 40 cm from nose to tail, so it is a fairly sizeable piece, and an adjustable stand is part of the package. The manufacturer treats the kit as snap-fit: the parts are color-separated and neither glue nor paints are needed for the build. The set follows on from the earlier models of the same series, the Apocalypse Tank and the Grizzly Tank.
The Kirov is not a historical craft - it is a unit from a computer game, so it has no actual service or history. In the game it is a Soviet bombing airship, at once the slowest and the toughest craft of the Soviet side and their only aerial means. The game explains this by saying that after an earlier conflict the Soviets were forbidden to develop winged aircraft, so they took the path of airships. The name refers to the Soviet politician Sergei Kirov.
The color separation of the parts means that the model can be built even without paints, but spraying a thin coat and weathering will take its appearance further. The large smooth surfaces of the hull will call for patient filling of the seams, because every unevenness stands out on them. On the finished model the drive and lighting part runs along the surface, so consider whether you will leave it exposed or mask it with paint.
The model is supplied unassembled, but the parts are, according to the manufacturer, color-separated and neither glue nor paints are needed for the build. Check the extent of the package including the drive, the lighting and the power supply on the box; accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
