The DSPIAE PT-C circular cutter

A one-piece version of the circular cutter in which the adjustment, the guidance of the blade and the reading of the radius are joined into a single whole. According to the manufacturer it will handle circles roughly from one to fifty millimeters in diameter. Stepless adjustment means that the radius comes out exactly and you do not have to compromise between two sizes in the range.

What sets it apart

Above the working area there is a transparent panel with concentric circles printed on it, so you see straight onto the material and read the radius off without measuring. The blade mount is sprung, which keeps the pressure constant and spares the edge. The blades are kept in a case with a magnetic catch, so there is no loose edge lying about on the bench.

How to work with it

• Put a mat under the material that the center point can be stuck into.
• Try the radius on an offcut; the transparent panel makes setting it accurately easier.
• Describe the circle lightly several times over rather than in one heavy stroke.
• Wipe the tool after work, as adhesive from the masking tape settles on the blade and on the point.

Who it is for

The cutter is for modelers who mask circular elements regularly and want to repeat them exactly, that is on national insignia, wheels, headlights and covers. It comes into play on discs of thin plastic and film as well. It is not intended for thick material or metals.

If a model needs a symmetrical pair of masks, cut them one after another at a single setting. Both will then come out identical, which with two separate settings will not happen. The blades are very sharp; keep the tool out of the reach of children.
