Wet Palette XL wet palette (Green Stuff World)

The Wet Palette XL is a wet palette in an enlarged format. It consists of a tray with a lid, an absorbent sponge and a semi-permeable paper that is laid onto the dampened sponge. Paint set down on the paper stays fluid even after a long while thanks to the moisture drawn up through it, so there is no need to keep adding drops and mixing it again.

Use

• Let the sponge soak up water and squeeze the excess out; there must be no standing puddle
• Lay a sheet of semi-permeable paper on top and let it soak through
• Dispense the paint in small drops close together and add thinner on the paper itself
• Fit the lid after work, and mixed shades then last even between sessions
• Replace the paper as soon as it starts to tear or to pick up previous shades

What to watch out for

The palette is made for water-thinnable paints. Solvent-based enamels and lacquers make no sense on it, because they do not take up water from the backing. Dry the sponge out after a longer break, as damp otherwise harbors mold. The large format is an advantage when mixing transitions and flesh tones, where several mixed tones have to sit side by side at once. Top the sponge up with water a drop at a time, as over-wet paper thins the paint needlessly.
