A plastic kit in 1:700 scale from the Japanese brand Aoshima, from the popular waterline line (a hull modeled down to the waterline). The parts breakdown concentrates on the essentials, so the build is straightforward and at the same time captures the ship's characteristic superstructure faithfully.
Chokai was a heavy cruiser of the Imperial Japanese Navy and the fourth unit of the Takao class. She stood out for her large forward bridge structure. During the Second World War she took part in a number of operations in the Pacific and was armed with main-caliber guns, anti-aircraft weapons and shipborne floatplanes with a catapult.
A waterline model can be built on its own or set into a water surface made of acrylic gel. A dark wash into the recesses and light dry-brushing on the edges of the superstructure will help it stand out. Consider adding photo-etched railings and aerials for a more faithful scale appearance. Glue the small gun barrel and gun parts with cyanoacrylate glue.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
