The real subject

The PLZ-05 is a Chinese 155 mm self-propelled howitzer on a tracked chassis, introduced with the artillery of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. The turret with its long barrel and the tall hull make the machine distinctive enough to be recognized easily in a model too. The set is aimed at the camouflage scheme linked to the parade for the 80th anniversary, that is at the build in which the vehicles appear in ceremonial trim.

What the set contains

The package brings masking stencils for spraying the camouflage fields in 1:35 scale. The shapes are cut in advance according to the scheme, so they do not have to be traced or cut out of tape. Imitating a many-colored camouflage by hand is meanwhile exactly the place where a model most often goes wrong.

Building and painting tips

Proceed color by color: spray the first shade, let it dry, and only then apply the stencils and lay on the next. Press the edges down carefully every time and spray perpendicular in thin coats, otherwise the paint will creep under and the edge of the field will smear. Take the stencils off paint that has flashed off rather than fully cured. Between the individual shades, always check that the previous coat is really dry; otherwise the mask will stick and take the paint with it. Wipe the remains of adhesive off with a cotton swab moistened with alcohol and fix the finished surface with a clear coat.
