Dandelions in 1:35 scale, twelve pieces

A dandelion is more useful on a diorama than it might seem. It is a plant everyone recognizes, so it gives the scene its scale straight away, and at the same time it carries information about the season: a dandelion in flower means spring. It grows beside roads, on embankments, in broken paving and along the edges of fields, which is exactly where most military dioramas take place. The set contains twelve pieces produced by 3D printing, which copes with the finely divided leaves and the thin stalk with its flower, something an injection mold could not manage.

Use

• Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water; residue is left on the surface after printing.
• Cut the print supports off as close to the part as possible and sand the marks away; they have nothing to do with casting.
• Paint the leaves a darker green than the flower; on the real plant the difference is pronounced.
• Place the plants in irregular groups; a single piece looks random.
• Press the plant into fresh texture paste and it holds by itself once dry.
• You can imitate plants that have gone to seed by repainting the flower white and leaving the leaves lighter.

Who it is for

The set suits diorama builders, figure painters finishing off their bases and modelers of larger-scale layouts. The work is straightforward and the result reads immediately, because the viewer recognizes the plant without any explanation.
