A sheet of water-slide decals from the Japanese maker Studio27 in 1:24 scale. This is not a kit: the package contains only decals and instructions for their placement. You have to get the model of the car itself separately, as the sheet is prepared for the Fujimi McLaren MP4-12C GT3 kit.

Which car it is

The livery of car No. 98 of the ART Grand Prix team from Monza 2014, from the opening race of the season of the Blancpain endurance series. The crew of Grégoire Demoustier, Álvaro Parente and Alexandre Prémat won this three-hour race. ART Grand Prix is a French stable renowned above all in junior formulae, where it brought up a number of later Formula 1 drivers; its activity in GT3 as a McLaren customer team is therefore an interesting side road. Monza earned the nickname temple of speed, as the long straights in the historic park make it the fastest circuit in Europe.

Why such sheets are bought and how not to confuse them

A kit offers only one or two liveries, but the MP4-12C GT3 raced with a whole range of teams. Anyone who wants a particular car from a particular race reaches for a sheet. Watch out for mix-ups: two different sheets from Monza 2014 exist, this one with car No. 98 of the ART Grand Prix team and the other with car No. 15 of the Boutsen Ginion team. Other MP4-12C liveries exist as well: Bhaitech No. 60 and 61 from Nogaro and Dörr Motorsport from the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring.

Application tips

• Decals belong on gloss clear coat. On a matte surface air is caught under the film and the decal silvers, which is the most common mistake.
• On the curved areas of the body use decal softener; with large sponsor markings it is practically a necessity.
• Go over the finished markings with clear coat and polish them, as the edges of the film disappear and the surface gains a wet look.
• The color of the body has to match, as the sheet does not cover the whole area of the car and you spray the basic shade.

• Collectors of modern endurance racing and of GT3 cars.
• Fans of McLaren, as the MP4-12C was the first road car of the brand after the legendary F1 and its GT3 version meant the McLaren return to customer racing.

The sheet contains decals only. The kit, paints, clear coat, softener and glue are not included in the package.
